Raw Chocolate Mousse Recipe with Avocado & Banana
I am having a flashback moment! About 18 years ago, when I lived near Brighton, in Sussex, I used to host raw-vegan potlucks. It got me thinking about this classic raw chocolate mousse recipe!
People would come from, all-over, near and far, bringing along a dish of something tasty to share.
It was a real joy to see what the table would fill up with every time! My good friend Mark always, but always, brought a raw vegan mousse. With good reason too – they were delectable.
In those days raw-foodies didn’t eat chocolate, so Mark would use carob instead. There are a zillion different ways to make a raw mousse, so if there is something you don’t like then you can easily swap and change.
In this recipe I am sharing a version I made the other day. I’d had a productive stint gardening and felt like I’d well & truly earned myself a treat (and wanted it without a moment to spare).
What’s in the raw chocolate mousse recipe?
Avocado might sound a bit odd in a dessert, but it really works. It brings in a luxurious creaminess like nothing else could. Super healthy too! Just make sure your avocado is ‘buttery’ ripe. The banana is the main sweetener here; however, if you fancy something different then swap it out for medjool dates. Add extra maple syrup or coconut sugar/nectar to achieve your desired sweetness.
Cacao is in this chocolate pudding (in case you couldn’t tell). Cacao is chock-full of antioxidants.Antioxidants are compounds designed to protect the cells of the human body, which in turn prevents premature aging and disease.
Cacao is especially rich in polyphenols, helpful for their beneficial influence on our heart health. In fact, it is thought that out of all known foods, cocoa actually has the highest antioxidant polyphenol content. In a nut-shell, this means that it provides the best cardiovascular protection by a long shot. Cacao is also well known to reduce cholesterol in the blood, improve artery and vein function, and can also lower blood pressure.
Cacao – all I can say is ‘YES’! Bring on the chocolate folks.
